The St. Mary's County Tennis Association is a non-profit organization dedicated to growing tennis in St. Mary's and neighboring counties. The SMCTA is a registered CTA (Community Tennis Association) and a USTA Maryland member organization. We operate organized and informal play for all ages and skill levels, including, but not limited to:
- Adult League tennis (Adult, Mixed, Senior, Senior Mixed, Tri-Level and Combo divisions)
- Junior Team Tennis
- Tennis Lessons for Adults and Families
- SMCTA Team Tennis Tournament
- Holton Hilliard Memorial Tournament
- St. Mary's College Open Tournament
- Feast or Slammin' Thanksgiving Charity Tournament
The SMCTA also supports various other community tennis programs and events, such as:
- St. Mary’s College High School Tennis Clinic Series
- Campus Kids’ Day
- Tennis Night in America
- Breton Bay Open Tournament
- Cove Point Spring Fling Tournament
The SMCTA works closely with the St. Mary's County Department of Recreation and Parks and St. Mary's County Public Schools in scheduling court time for leagues and events, and to ensure our local tennis facilities meet, and will continue to meet the needs of the community. We also partner with the St. Mary's College of Maryland tennis program for many of our local events and initiatives.
Our Mission
The St. Mary’s County Tennis Association promotes teamwork, respect, discipline, and honesty through tennis as a lifetime sport. We aim to provide everyone the opportunity to enjoy, and gain the physical, mental, and emotional benefits of tennis.
More About Us
The SMCTA is a 100% volunteer-run organization, led by a member-elected board of directors, and an advisory board of past presidents and board members. Our membership includes nearly 1000 tennis players and enthusiasts from St. Mary's and surrounding counties, including Calvert, Charles, Prince Georges and Anne Arundel. The SMCTA is a free-to-join organization, all who participate in SMCTA functions are members.
We currently hold 501(c)4 classification with the IRS. Our current annual operating budget is approximately $10,000.
